How to Structure a Blog Post for AI Extraction

To structure a blog post for AI extraction, answer the core question directly near the top, use headings that match real questions, keep paragraphs short, and use lists and tables for anything sequential or comparative. A model can only extract cleanly from a post that is already organized clearly for a human skimming it.

Lead with the answer, not the windup

A common habit in blog writing is building up to the point with a long introduction. For a post meant to answer a specific question, that structure works against you. State the direct answer in the first paragraph, then use the rest of the post for depth, context, and nuance.

Use headings as real questions

A heading like "what is X" or "how to do Y" tells both a human skimmer and a model exactly what the section below answers. Vague headings like "overview" or "getting started" carry no information on their own.

Formatting choices that help

  • Short paragraphs, generally three or four sentences at most
  • Numbered steps for anything sequential
  • Bullet lists for anything comparative or enumerable
  • Bold text sparingly, only for genuinely key terms, not entire sentences

Avoid burying the actual information

Long personal anecdotes, extended caveats, or repeated restating of the same point before getting to the substance all make it harder for a model, or a human, to find the actual answer. Say the useful thing, then add the color around it.
