Can My SEO Agency Handle GEO or Do I Need Someone New?

Many good SEO agencies can handle GEO well, since the underlying skills, clear writing, technical site health, earning credible mentions, overlap heavily. The real test is not whether they call themselves a GEO agency, it is whether they can show you evidence of what AI models say about clients today and a plan to change it.

Questions to ask your current agency

  • Can you show me what ChatGPT and Gemini currently say about my brand, not just my Google rankings
  • Do you check whether AI crawlers can actually access our site, separate from Googlebot
  • Has any client seen a measurable change in AI mentions from your work, and can you show it
  • How do you plan to update content specifically for how language models extract answers, not just how Google ranks pages

Warning signs it is time to look elsewhere

Be cautious if an agency treats GEO as a rebrand of the exact same deliverables you already get, with no new measurement, no discussion of AI crawler access, and no mention of llms.txt or structured data. That usually signals they added a slide to their pitch deck rather than a real capability.

It does not have to be all or nothing

You do not need to fire your SEO agency to add GEO. Many businesses keep their existing SEO relationship and bring in a second, smaller engagement or an in house effort specifically for AI visibility work, then fold it back in once the agency catches up.
