How Do I Know If a GEO Agency Is Legit?

Because GEO is new, there is no established credential or years of track record to check the way you might check an SEO agency's ranking history. The best test is to ask specific, verifiable questions and watch how they answer. Vague confidence is the biggest warning sign.

Questions worth asking directly

  • Can you show me a real before and after of a brand's mentions in ChatGPT or Gemini, not just a promise of results
  • How do you measure success? If the answer is vague, or only mentions traffic, that is an SEO answer wearing a GEO label
  • Do you check whether our site is blocked from AI crawlers before proposing content work
  • What is your timeline for early signal versus real, sustained results, and does it match what is realistic, weeks for early movement, months for consistency

Warning signs

  • Guaranteeing a specific ranking or mention count, no one controls exactly how a model answers
  • No mention of technical basics like crawler access or llms.txt, jumping straight to content volume
  • Pricing based purely on how many articles get produced, with no measurement of mentions at all

A reasonable way to vet them

Ask them to run your brand and two competitors through their process on a call and show you the actual output. A legitimate agency can do this in minutes, because the same checks anyone can run themselves, for example with a free tool like QueryTrace.
