How to Write a Comparison Page AI Models Actually Cite

AI models get asked comparison questions constantly, like which of two products is better for a specific use case, and they often lean on comparison pages to answer them. Writing one that actually gets cited means being genuinely fair, specific, and structured, since a one sided page that is obviously just marketing gives a model less reason to trust it.

Why comparison pages get cited so often

A huge share of AI questions are comparative by nature: X versus Y, best tool for Z, is X or Y better for a small team. A page that has already done that comparison clearly and fairly saves a model the work of piecing it together from separate sources.

What makes a comparison page trustworthy enough to cite

  • Be genuinely fair to the competitor, including at least one place where they win, since an obviously one sided page reads as marketing rather than information
  • Use a real table or structured list for the actual differences: price, features, who it is for
  • Include specific details instead of vague claims like "more powerful" or "better value"
  • State clearly who each option is actually best for, rather than declaring a single universal winner

The structure that tends to work

Start with a short, direct summary of the key difference. Follow with a comparison table or list. Then go deeper on two or three of the most important factors, with specifics. End with clear guidance on who should pick which option.

Testing it

Ask an AI model the comparison question your page answers and see whether it reflects your framing accurately, or ignores your page in favor of a competitor's. That gap is a specific, fixable signal.
