How Do I Measure GEO Success for My Business?

GEO success is not measured in rankings or clicks. It is measured in whether AI models mention your brand at all, whether that mention is accurate and favorable, and whether people who saw that mention eventually become customers. None of your existing SEO dashboards track this by default.

The core metric

Mention rate is the starting point. Out of the real questions your customers ask, how often does ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity name your brand at all, compared to competitors. This is the AI equivalent of a ranking position, except there is no list, just named or not named.

Beyond just being mentioned

  • Accuracy, meaning whether what the model says about you is actually correct
  • Sentiment, meaning whether the mention is favorable, neutral, or negative
  • Share of model, meaning how often you show up compared to your top two or three competitors on the same questions
  • Source tracing, meaning which of your pages or third party mentions the model seems to be pulling from

Connecting it to the business

The hardest but most useful step is tying AI mentions to actual leads or sales, the same way you would with any other channel. Ask new customers where they heard about you, and watch for language that suggests they asked an AI model first, like referencing a comparison they saw in a chat.

A starting point

You need a real baseline before any of this means anything. QueryTrace runs your category's real questions against ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity and shows you where you stand today, free, so you have a number to actually track over time.
